But critics use it as a catch-all phrase that attacks teachers' efforts to confront dark episodes in American history, including slavery and segregation, as well as to tackle racist stereotypes. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) signed his state’s effort to shut out anti-racism education into law on Tuesday, making Texas the latest to adopt legislation that bans certain topics on race and racism from being discussed in the classroom.
