Another Blow To North Carolina Voter ID: North Carolina Republicans were dealt another legal setback in their efforts to revive voter ID in the state this week. A state court of appeals has put the requirement on hold, with a decision Tuesday that said its challengers were likely to succeed in proving that the law was motivated by a discriminatory intent. Tuesday’s decision was in addition to a federal judge’s order that halted the requirement while the lawsuit proceeds in that court. North Carolina had already planned to move forward with next month’s primary without the requirement in place. The state appeals court order increases the likelihood that the requirement will also be on hold for November’s general election.
