The civil rights lawyer that President Biden selected for the third highest position at the Justice Department acknowledged that a 2013 Supreme Court ruling gutting the Voting Rights Act had “devastated” a key tool for DOJ enforcement of the law. But, she said, even with the law hobbled, it was “incumbent on the Justice Department to ensure that all eligible Americans are able to exercise their right to vote.”
