White House counselor Kellyanne Conway told CNN’s Dana Bash Thursday that a woman is due in court next month for assaulting her in a D.C. restaurant back in October.
“I was standing next to my daughter and many of her friends at dinner. She was right here next to me. Her friends were, too,” Conway said. “Somebody was grabbing me from behind, grabbed my arms and was shaking me…It felt weird, like that’s a little aggressive. I turned around and the woman was unhinged.”
“She was out of control. I don’t know how to explain her to you,” Conway continued. “Her whole face was terror and anger…She ought to pay for that. She has no right to touch anybody.”
The woman, Mary Elizabeth Inabinett, has been charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conduct. Her lawyer denies that she touched Conway, saying that she was merely “exercising her First Amendment rights.”
The alleged assault occurred around the high-tension time of the Brett Kavanaugh hearings.
Conway joins many Trump administration officials who have been heckled by protesting citizens in public spaces, though she is the first to claim a physical altercation.
