The White House is ramping up its efforts to keep Republicans in line on President Trump’s border wall, The Washington Post reported.
According to two Senate Republicans who spoke to the Post, the White House in recent days has been calling undecided senators with a warning message: Trump will keep track of those who vote in support of a resolution that blocks the President’s emergency declaration for his wall funding — especially those who are up for reelection in 2020.
The House passed a resolution last month that’s meant to block Trump from using military funding to build his border wall and the Senate is expected to vote on the bill soon. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has already acknowledged the resolution will pass in the Senate — given at least four Republicans have indicated they will support the legislation — and Trump will be forced to veto it.
However, there’s not enough support for the disapproval resolution in the House for the veto to be overturned.
