The White House has told federal agencies to plan for President Donald Trump’s February budget proposal for fiscal year 2022, according to the Washington Post, despite the fact that he won’t be in office by then.
One of the administration officials who spoke to the Post said that the White House is “pretending nothing happened” in spite of President-elect Joe Biden’s electoral victory, which Trump has furiously worked to delegitimize with bogus voter fraud claims.
“We’re all supposed to pretend this is normal, and do all this work, while we know we’re just going to have to throw it away,” the official said.
The White House’s budget plans further signal the Trump administration’s undemocratic defiance of the election, which has also involved ordering senior officials from cooperating with Biden’s transition team.
