The White House on Monday doubled down on acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney’s suggestion this weekend that Democrats will “never” see President Trump’s tax returns and took it a step further, insulting Democrats for their “disgusting” efforts to fight Trump “at every turn.”
“No matter what we do, it is never going to be enough. If you came out tomorrow and gave the Mueller report to the entire press corps unredacted and then came out and said, ‘By the way, here is a stack of my tax returns for the last 10 years,’ they would come up with something else,” White House deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley told Fox News on Monday. “It is never good enough because whatever Donald Trump does they hate. … They want to fight him at every turn and this is another example of that. It’s disgusting.”
Gidley went on to suggest that Democrats’ oversight has actually become “overreach” and said they’ve done nothing to work with Trump to “fix the problems of the day.”
