White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Friday waved off questions about whether Trump should tone down his rhetoric against journalists following the arrest of a white nationalist Coast Guard lieutenant who allegedly planned to attack Democrats and members of the media.
“I certainly don’t think that the President at any point has done anything but condemn violence against journalists or anyone else,” she said. “And in fact, every single time something like this happens, the President is typically one of the first people to condemn the violence and the media is the first people to blame the President.”
However, it’s been radio silence from Trump since the lieutenant’s arrest. According to authorities, the man is an avowed white nationalist who allegedly was hoarding weapons and had created a list of lawmakers and reporters he wanted to attack.
