GOP Chair Ronna McDaniel announced on Thursday night that the party will hold President Donald Trump’s events at the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Jacksonville, Florida.
“We are thrilled to hold @realDonaldTrump’s acceptance of the Republican nomination in the great city of Jacksonville!” McDaniel tweeted. “Not only is Florida his home state, it is crucial to victory.”
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), a close ally to Trump, applauded the move.
“Florida is honored to host this special event where we will celebrate the re-nomination of President Donald J. Trump,” he said in a statement.
Republican officials decided to relocate the RNC’s more glitzy, Trump-centric events after the President pulled it out of its original location in Charlotte, North Carolina when Gov. Roy Cooper (D) refused to guarantee that he’d allow full attendance amid COVID-19.

Not all RNC events have been relocated to Jacksonville; a few routine convention meetings will still be held in Charlotte in compliance with the party’s contract with North Carolina.
The convention will be held August 24-27.
