Yikes!
In a statement issued by his “Save America” political action committee that was written almost exactly like a tweet, ex-President Donald Trump urged his supporters to stop donating to “RINOS” (Republicans In Name Only) and redirect the cash to him instead.
“No more money for RINOS. They do nothing but hurt the Republican Party and our great voting base—they will never lead us to Greatness,” the former president declared. “Send your donation to Save America PAC at DonaldJTrump.com.”
“We will bring it all back stronger than ever before!” he added.
Trump’s call comes several days after his attorneys sent cease-and-desist notices to the Republican National Committee (RNC), the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) demanding they stop using his name and image in their fundraising efforts.
RNC chief counsel Justin Riemer dismissed the cease-and-desist letter on Monday afternoon, writing that the organization “has every right to refer to public figures as it engages in core, First Amendment-protected political speech, and it will continue to do so in pursuit of these common goals” and that Trump had “reaffirmed” in conversations with RNC chair Ronna McDaniel this past weekend that he approved the organization’s use of his name and image.
The RNC is preparing to hold part of its donor retreat at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, according to the Washington Post.
The RNC, NRCC, and NRSC did not immediately respond to request for comment.
Despite no longer holding office, Trump has made it clear that he will continue to exercise his massive control over the GOP, throwing the party into a tailspin as he swears revenge against the Republicans who voted to impeach him for inciting the insurrection at the Capitol on January 6.
