Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) insists President Donald Trump has learned his lesson after the House impeachment, to which Trump says: Actually Susan, I haven’t learned anything.
Collins, who has announced she will acquit Trump in the Senate impeachment trial, told CBS News anchor Norah O’Donnell on Tuesday that while Trump’s call with the Ukrainian president was “far from a perfect call,” she believes that Trump “has learned from this case.”
“The President has been impeached,” the Maine Republican said. “That’s a pretty big lesson.”
“I’m voting to acquit because I do not believe that the behavior alleged reached the high bar in the Constitution for overturning an election and removing a duly elected president,” she continued.
“But the President says he did nothing wrong. Why do you think he learned something?” asked O’Donnell.
“He was impeached and has been criticism by both Republican and Democratic senators of his call,” Collins responded. “I believe he will be much more cautious in the future.”
Trump doesn’t quite agree with any of that.
“It was a perfect call,” he said for the hundredth time when asked about Collins’ comments during a White House lunch with reporters, according to the Washington Post.
