President Donald Trump is poised to award Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), one of his most diehard lackeys in Congress, the Medal of Freedom, according to the Washington Post and the New York Times.
The award is the highest honor a civilian can receive. The Times reports that Trump will give it to Nunes on Monday.
As ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, Nunes fought vigorously against the committee’s impeachment proceedings last year. The GOP lawmaker also tried to shield the President from the Russia investigation.
Trump also has tentative plans next week to give the medal to Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), another one of his most outspoken stooges, according to the Post and the Times. Like Nunes, the Ohio Republican served as the President’s top defenders during impeachment and the Russia probe.
As his presidency comes to a close, Trump has been doling out rewards for his allies, including Paul Manafort and Roger Stone, in the form of pardons and commutations of prison sentences in recent weeks.
