Former President Donald Trump aired stale, false grievances about election fraud in a statement late Monday deriding both the Supreme Court and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) for ultimately refusing to play into his antidemocratic bid to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
Still unable to move on, the former president suggested in a statement released through his Save America PAC late Monday, that the high court would “get what they deserve,” after it famously rejected a long-shot Texas lawsuit to throw out the election results in four battleground states.
“Our politically correct Supreme Court will get what they deserve—an unconstitutionally elected group of Radical Left Democrats who are destroying our Country. With leaders like Mitch McConnell, they are helpless to fight. He didn’t fight for the Presidency, and he won’t fight for the Court,” Trump said in the statement. “If and when this happens, I hope the Justices remember the day they didn’t have courage to do what they should have done for America.”
The attack on the Supreme Court laced with an ongoing effort to undermine McConnell’s leadership, comes after Trump called the top Senate Republican a “dumb son of a bitch,” during an appearance at the Republican National Committee’s spring donor retreat on Saturday.
After Trump ripped McConnell during the weekend’s events, the National Republican Senatorial Committee Chair Rick Scott presented Trump with its inaugural “Champion for Freedom Award.”
The former president’s attempt to undercut the Kentucky Republican follows President Joe Biden’s signing of an executive order on Friday to establish a commission tasked with studying potential reforms to the Supreme Court.
In a statement on Friday, McConnell called the decision to launch a commission a “direct assault on our nation’s independent judiciary and yet another sign of the Far Left’s influence over the Biden Administration.”
“President Biden campaigned on a promise of lowering the temperature and uniting a divided nation. If he really meant it, he would stop giving oxygen to a dangerous, antiquated idea and stand up to the partisans hawking it,” he added.
