President Donald Trump’s grip on his party was evident Tuesday evening, as only four Republicans were willing to break with the pack and vote in favor of a resolution condemning him for his racist comments.
Reps. Fred Upton (R-MI), Susan Brooks (R-IN), Will Hurd (R-TX) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) joined the Democrats on the vote.
According to Politico, some of their Republican peers who publicly disavowed Trump’s remarks, like Rep. Paul Mitchell (R-MI), still voted against the resolution.
“The resolution is a partisan effort that doesn’t move the ball forward,” Mitchell said. “If we’re gonna deal with things that people are saying, than we ought to deal with it on both sides of the aisle.”
