On Monday, former Trump campaign adviser Michael Caputo received a phone call from an old friend.
According to Politico Playbook, President Trump and Caputo haven’t spoken since Trump’s inauguration, but the President called this week to express remorse that Caputo was involved in congressional probes and special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. Caputo testified before the House Intelligence Committee in 2017 and has become a regular TV commentator on the probe. Most notably, he was one of the first to diminish George Papadopolous’ role in the campaign when he referred to him as a “coffee boy.”
In their phone call on Monday, Trump reportedly invited Caputo to visit the White House. Caputo and his family accepted and spent a half-hour with the President in the Oval Office on Tuesday, according to Playbook.
According to Caputo, he’s not the only former friend Trump’s reconnecting with now that Mueller’s probe is complete.
“He is reaching out to people he lost because of the Russia hoax,” Caputo told Playbook. “We all got pushed out. These are some of the people he misses having around.”
