President Donald Trump signed a veto, his first, on the bill to curtail his national emergency declaration Friday, telling assembled reporters that the legislation is “dangerous,” “reckless” and “against reality.”
“Congress has the freedom to pass this resolution and I have the duty to veto it,” he said, calling it a “Democrat-sponsored resolution.”
“I’m very proud to veto it,” he added.
He praised the Republicans who voted against the bill as “strong, wonderful people.”
He hit his usual (exaggerated) talking points on the drugs and criminals pouring over the border and said that Democrats and Republicans could come to an accord on “catch and release” laws in “15 minutes” if the political will was there.
