President Donald Trump has bounced frenetically from one idea to the next on immigration in the past two weeks, abruptly firing staffers and deciding (then un-deciding) to close the border.
According to the Washington Post, the frenzy has Republicans worried that not only will Trump inadvertently hurt the U.S. economy and national security, but that he won’t get his act together on one of his signature campaign issues before the 2020 campaign gets underway in earnest.
As it is, Trump is going to have to contend with the reality that illegal immigration has increased during his tenure despite all his fire-and-brimstone talk of shutting down the border and, of course, building the wall.
