It appears that Lin Wood, one of the lawyers who unsuccessfully pushed former President Trump’s election fraud falsehoods, has suffered another loss: his former boss passed him over to endorse the incumbent for the chairmanship of the South Carolina Republican Party.
In a report published in The Hill on Monday, Wood said that he decided to run for the leadership of the South Carolina GOP to “recognize and appreciate the amazing Patriots stepping up to get involved in the party.” Wood launched his bid for to lead the party less than a month after he relocated to South Carolina from his home state of Georgia.
Apparently the Trumpian rhetoric wasn’t enough to convince the former president to throw his support behind his former lawyer who egged on his fantasies of stealing away Joe Biden’s electoral victory.
A day after Wood announced his campaign to lead the South Carolina Republican Party, Trump once again made clear that he favors the re-election of the state party’s current chairman Drew McKissick.
Trump had previously endorsed McKissick’s re-election bid in February, before the South Carolina GOP chair faced any opposition.
On Tuesday, the former president reiterated his endorsement of McKissick in a statement released through his Save America PAC.
“Drew McKissick has done an outstanding job as South Carolina GOP Chairman, electing more Republicans in 2020 than in over 140 years,” Trump said.
“Drew fought all the way to the Supreme Court to defend our voting laws – and WON. He will continue to grow the party and help Conservatives get elected in the Great State of South Carolina. Drew has my Complete and Total Endorsement for re-election!”
McKissick is a longtime Trump loyalist who called off the state’s GOP presidential primary last year and endorsed the then-president.
Soon after the House voted to impeach Trump for “incitement of insurrection,” the South Carolina GOP censured Rep. Tom Rice (R-SC) following his vote in favor of Trump’s impeachment. Rice joined nine other House Republicans in voting to impeach Trump. The former president has launched efforts to “get rid” of all Republicans who bucked him.
