It took no time at all for President Trump to fully adopt the inflammatory language one of his administration officials used on Fox Business to describe the impeachment inquiry into his attempts to pressure foreign officials to advance his political agenda.
Parroting his own trade adviser Peter Navarro — who called the impeachment inquiry an attempted “attempted coup d’état” during an appearance on Fox Business Tuesday — Trump tweeted Wednesday that he had come to the “conclusion” that the inquiry was more of a “COUP intended to take away the Power of the People.” He listed off a series of American freedoms, likely at attempt to appeal to his base’s most stringent values.
Trump has primarily used his Twitter platform to try to discredit the impeachment inquiry since it was announced by Democratic leadership last week, a move that’s privately concerning to Republicans who think the White House has failed to develop a unified response to the investigation.
