Members of President Donald Trump’s campaign helped organize the “stop the steal” rally in Washington D.C. that transformed into the Capitol riot, according to the Associated Press.
The rally was hosted by Women for America First alongside other groups, and the permits include the names of a handful of people that just weeks prior were being paid by the campaign.
They include Megan Powers, formerly the campaign’s director of operations, Caroline Wren, who was paid by the campaign as a consultant and Maggie Mulvaney, niece of Mick Mulvaney and director of finance operations for the campaign.
Much of the women’s social media posts about the event, like the online footprint of many groups involved in planning the rallies, have since been wiped.
The Women for America First page in particular was almost completely bare after the rally, excepting one statement from Amy Kremer, the group’s founder.
“Unfortunately, for months the left and the mainstream media told the American people that violence was an acceptable political tool,” the statement read. “They were wrong. It is not.”
