The British ambassador who disparaged the “dysfunctional” and “inept” Trump administration in a leaked memo will no longer be invited to attend U.S. government events, the Washington Post reported.
Trump said in a tweet on Monday that he would “no longer deal with” British Ambassador Kim Darroch, declaring that he didn’t know the United Kingdom official well and that he was not “well liked or well thought of within the U.S.”
But according to the Post, that doesn’t appear to be true. Senior Trump administration officials, like White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, senior adviser Stephen Miller, Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney and former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders have all attended private dinners with Darroch. Several senior officials also regularly attend parties at the embassies, according to the Post.
Darroch also meets often with National Security Adviser John Bolton and he used to have breakfast with now former Chief of Staff John Kelly on the regular. The ambassador has also been pivotal in arranging visit to Britain, coordinating activities in a way that would calm a mercurial president.
Trump unleashed another thread of tweets berating Darroch on Tuesday morning, calling him “wacky,” and a “very stupid guy.”
