As President Trump is scolded by Democratic leadership for tweeting an incendiary video that attacks freshman Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) for her comments on 9/11, CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin pointed out on Monday that it’s not a “coincidence” that Trump often targets “people of color.”
“What do all the people that he’s vilifying have in common?” Toobin said during a panel discussion about Omar Monday morning. “They are all people of color. You know, AOC (Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez), Omar. Whether it is the basketball players or the football players, he’s always after people of color. That’s not a coincidence.”

Last week, Omar was criticized for comments she made about Muslims facing discrimination after 9/11. Some interpreted the remark as appearing to downplay the terrorist attack.
Trump seized on another chance to attack Omar, one of the first Muslim women to serve in Congress, tweeting out a video about the controversy. Omar’s office said Sunday she’s received multiple death threats since then.
