As the freshman congresswoman who first garnered attention for vowing to “impeach the motherfucker” early-on in her tenure, it’s no surprise that Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) is behind efforts to open an inquiry into whether the President committed impeachable offenses, despite House Democratic leadership’s blatant attempts to shy away from the topic.
Tlaib is reportedly circulating a letter to fellow House Judiciary Committee members to ask them to sign onto a resolution to “to inquire whether President Trump committed impeachable offenses. Congress can provide an open and transparent process with the sole goal of ensuring we know the truth and make sure it does not continue, nor happen again.”
According to Politico Playbook, the letter was circulated by Tlaib’s office on Monday evening.
Tlaib is primarily interested in investigating Trump’s business dealings in relation to the Foreign Emoluments Clause, whether he broke the law in directing Michael Cohen to make hush payments to Stormy Daniels and whether he obstructed justice. It is unclear if any Judiciary Committee members have signed onto the resolution.
