Secret Service agents in President Trump’s detail are being asked whether they’d like to relocate to Palm Beach, Florida — where Mar-a-Lago is located — as Trump’s flailing legal attempts to challenge the election results fizzle out, according to ABC News on Monday.
ABC News also reported that the Secret Service’s Miami field office also has inquired about physical reinforcements to Mar-a-Largo.
The request of Secret Service agents to relocate to Florida and the potential Mar-a-Lago reinforcement are seen as unofficial moves amid Trump’s refusal to concede to Biden.
After being a longtime New Yorker, Trump changed his residency to Florida last year and voted by mail in the Sunshine State in late October.
A secret service spokesperson told ABC News: “For operational security reasons, the Secret Service does not discuss specifically or in general terms the means, methods or resources we utilize to carry out our protective mission.”
According to ABC News, renovations are underway at living quarters at Mar-a-Lago where Trump and first lady Melania Trump are expected to occupy upon Biden’s inauguration in January.
ABC News noted that Trump — who will be required to spend at least six months per calendar year in Florida to maintain his residence status — is expected to split his post-presidency time at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, and in New York, although his plans after the White House aren’t set in stone.
