Tension broke out in the Sunshine State this week, as Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) pulled no punches in condemning the tweet written by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) threatening Michael Cohen with unsubstantiated allegations about extramarital affairs.
“We shouldn’t be doing that stuff up here, you might not like what somebody is going to say but you shouldn’t be trying to intimidate them or their family, it’s wrong,” Scott said, according to the Tampa Bay Times. “I think it’s disgusting and I’m glad he apologized.”
Gaetz has apologized for the now-deleted tweet and the Florida Bar has opened an investigation into the possible witness intimidation.
Reports also surfaced that Gaetz had a phone call with President Donald Trump about the tweet, during which he told the President he was happy to take the heat as long as Trump keeps “killing it.” Gaetz denies the story.
