House Intelligence Committee chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) has followed through on his April threat, issuing a subpoena Wednesday to the Justice Department for the unredacted Mueller report and underlying intelligence.
According to Politico, the DOJ failed to respond to the earlier request put out by Schiff and Republican ranking member Devin Nunes (R-CA), forcing their hand.
“The department repeatedly pays lip service to the importance of a meaningful accommodation process, but it has only responded to our efforts with silence or outright defiance,” Schiff said. “Today, we have no choice but to issue a subpoena to compel their compliance.”
Meanwhile, Schiff’s peers over at the House Judiciary Committee voted to recommend that Attorney General William Barr be held in contempt for refusing to turn over the unredacted report to Congress.
