Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein will make his expected departure from the Justice Department in mid-March, The Washington Post reported.
An official familiar with the matter told the Post that an announcement on his successor would be made soon. While plans could change if necessary for transition reasons, Rosenstein has been expected to leave his post once the new attorney general, William Barr, takes over the department.
According to the Post and other reports in recent days, Barr is expected to tap Jeffrey Rosen to replace Rosenstein. Rosen is currently the deputy secretary of transportation. Rosenstein has been overseeing the Russia probe for most of its existence, ever since former Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from the investigation.
Rosenstein has been in the news again in recent days as former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe makes the media rounds to promote his new book, confirming a New York Times report that Rosenstein suggested wearing a wire while communicating with President Trump.
