Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) on Sunday morning stopped short of agreeing with Rep. Justin Amash’s (R-MI) conclusion that President Donald Trump engaged in “impeachable conduct.”
Though Amash and Romney are the only two Republican lawmakers who directly criticized Trump’s behavior after the release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report, the Utah senator stopped short of floating impeachment.
“My own view is that Justin Amash has reached a different conclusion than I have,” Romney told CNN’s Jake Tapper. “But I believe that to make a case for obstruction of justice, you just don’t have the elements that are evidenced in this document.”
“As I read the report, I was troubled by it, was very disappointing for a number of reasons,” he continued. “I don’t think impeachment is the right way to go.”
Amash was more straightforward on Saturday. “President Trump has engaged in impeachable conduct,” he tweeted.
