The political rivals of the previously under-the-radar Pete Buttigieg are scrambling to find dirt and develop ways to attack the South Bend, Indiana mayor, who had no national profile before he tossed his hat in the 2020 ring, NBC News reported.
According to five officials on different Democratic campaigns and Republican political groups who spoke to NBC, Buttigieg’s political record is completely under the radar. Rivals are currently filing Freedom of Information Act requests and examining everything he’s said publicly and via social media.
The mayor’s main weak spots will likely center on his past demotion of a black police chief and an initiative he led as mayor to get rid of abandoned homes in South Bend, according to NBC.
