Attorney General Bill Barr reportedly may be looking at an expulsion after he publicly admitted on Tuesday that the Justice Department had not found evidence of the mass voter fraud President Donald Trump falsely claims had swayed the election.
According to the Washington Post and NBC News, Trump was incensed by Barr’s interview with the Associated Press, during which the official stated that “[t]o date, we have not seen fraud on a scale that could have affected a different outcome in the election.”
As such, the President is now privately deliberating over whether to keep his attorney general, per the Post and NBC News. Several of his allies are reportedly trying to advise him against firing Barr.
During a press briefing held after Barr’s interview, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany refused to say whether the attorney general still had Trump’s confidence.
“The President, if he has any personnel announcement, you will be the first to know it,” she told reporters.
