President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence have revamped the traditional top two lunch to suit Trump’s preferences. This means more cheeseburgers, and more cable news, than other presidential pairs have indulged in in the past.
According to an Atlantic report, Presidents and Vice Presidents in administrations of yore preferred to eat together without any staffers, to help build a relationship and allow for candor. Trump instead has issued a mass invite to top aides and keeps cable news on in the background, interrupting the meals of chicken and cheeseburgers to yell about coverage he doesn’t like.
Pence has won Trump’s approval by rarely disagreeing with him and being sure to compliment him at every opportunity. Trump reportedly considers Pence “probably the best choice I made — and I made a few bad ones.”
