It’s been about 24 hours since now-former President Donald Trump slunk away from the White House for good, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), for one, is elated.
During her weekly press briefing on Thursday, Pelosi rejoiced in Democrats’ newly gained power to shape “public sentiment” over their proposed progressive legislation now that President Joe Biden is in office.
“Now that we have the bully pulpit, and the President can explain to [the] public more clearly because a president has a bigger audience, the public will know what is at stake, how they can weigh in,” the House speaker said.
Pelosi ended the presser with a shout-out to the moment in Biden’s inaugural address on Wednesday when the newly sworn-in president pledged to put his “whole soul” into “bringing America together” in wake of Trump’s destructive term that culminated in a deadly insurrection.
“What a difference a day makes!” the Democratic leader declared before walking away from the podium.
