Pat Robertson Calls Alabama Abortion Ban ‘An Extreme Law’

The Alabama abortion ban sent to the governor’s desk Tuesday is even too severe for televangelist Pat Robertson, who called it an “extreme law.”

“I think Alabama has gone too far, they’ve passed a law that would give a 99-year prison sentence to those who commit abortions,” he said Wednesday on “The 700 Club.” “There’s no exception for rape or incest. It’s an extreme law and they want to challenge Roe v. Wade, but my humble view is that this is not the case we want to bring to the Supreme Court because I think this one’ll lose.”

The Alabama bill is part of a nationwide push by anti-abortion activists to get a state abortion ban all the way up to the Supreme Court, where they hope that the conservative majority will defang Roe v. Wade. The legislation has not yet been signed, so it is very far from certain that it would even make it to the highest court.
