One of the insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol grounds on January 6 and later bragged about breaking into the building was a close ally of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who has falsely claimed the attackers were Antifa in disguise.
CNN discovered that a far-right activist named Anthony Aguero, who has worked closely with Greene numerous times and whom the congresswoman has reportedly described as “amazing” and a “friend,” posted a livestream of himself walking away from the Capitol building and telling viewers “Guys, I was able to make it inside the chambers and I have footage that I’m going to provide for you guys as we made our way in there.”
He also describes the “blood all over the floor” from the fatal shooting of insurrectionist Ashli Babbitt in the building.
The video was reportedly deleted before CNN published the report.
He also posted a video of the pro-Trump mob inside the building. Aguero told CNN that the video wasn’t his and was in fact “screen recorded from other posts.”
CNN also reported that in a video posted on January 7, Aguero flatly disputes Trump loyalists’ false claim, one Greene has also peddled, that the insurrectionists were actually Antifa, aka “anti-fascists,” and other left-wing activists from groups such as Black Lives Matter (BLM).
“We were all there. It was not Antifa and it was not BLM. It was Trump supporters that did that yesterday,” Aguero says. “I’m the first to admit it, being one myself.”
In that same video, Aguero declares how he’s proud to “stand with people like Marjorie Taylor Greene,” who was one of the biggest proponents of the lie that the election was stolen from President Donald Trump.
“That woman has more courage than most of the men that were in that building,” Aguero says. “No, not most. That woman has more courage than every single man that was in that Capitol yesterday.”
CNN reported that Aguero and Greene have been closely associated for years: They visited lawmakers’ offices as part of their far-right activism before Greene was elected, have gone to pro-Trump rallies together, and spoke at a pro-border wall rally in February 2019.
Greene’s office did not respond to TPM’s request for comment.
The far-right congresswoman was stripped of her committee assignments in early February after her social media posts endorsing violence against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and touting various deranged conspiracy theories, including one claiming the Sandy Hook and Parkland school shootings were false flag operations, resurfaced.
