Former President Barack Obama on Tuesday threw more jabs at President Trump’s disastrous response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has killed more than 225,000 Americans thus far, by once again highlighting the President’s unhealthy obsession with media coverage.
Last week, Obama delivered a biting speech during a drive-in campaign event for his former VP Joe Biden in which he ripped Trump for “treating his presidency like a reality show.”
Obama’s fiery sentiment burned up further during a drive-in campaign rally Tuesday in Orlando, Florida as he took aim at Trump’s tweet earlier in the day that griped about how “all the fake news media wants to talk about is COVID, COVID, COVID” amid surging cases nationwide.
“And what is his closing argument? That people are too focused on COVID. He said this at one of his rallies: COVID, COVID, COVID — he is complaining,” Obama said.
Obama then argued that Trump is “jealous of COVID’s media coverage” before ripping the President for downplaying the pandemic and eventually turning the White House into a “hot zone.”
“If he was focused on COVID from the beginning, cases would not be reaching new record highs across the country this week,” Obama said. “The White House would not be having it is second out break this month. He turned the White House into a hot zone.”
Obama noted that Trump’s recent crowded and largely maskless campaign rallies are in places that experience COVID-19 spikes once the President departs.
Obama then expressed disbelief over White House chief of staff Mark Meadows’ off-handed admission that the Trump administration is “not going to control” the COVID-19 pandemic.
“His chief of staff on a news program said we’re not going to control the pandemic. He just said this. Yes, he did. And yes we noticed you are not going to control the pandemic,” Obama said, with exasperatedly. “Listen, winter is coming. They are waving the flight flag of surrender.”
During Obama’s speech, Trump dismissed the former President’s speech as “fake.”
