Former President Barack Obama, who has been extremely cautious about criticizing his successor, quietly shared a few tweets recently to convey his opinion of some of Trump’s racist comments.
So far, he has weighed in on Trump’s criticism of four congresswomen of color — he has yet to react to Trump’s newest bout of racism, after he called Baltimore “infested” with “rodents.”
First, he retweeted his wife, Michelle, who tweeted an ode to America’s diversity.
What truly makes our country great is its diversity. I’ve seen that beauty in so many ways over the years. Whether we are born here or seek refuge here, there’s a place for us all. We must remember it’s not my America or your America. It’s our America.

This weekend, he came across a little stronger, sharing comments along with an op-ed penned by members of his administration called “We are African Americans, we are patriots, and we refuse to sit idly by.”
I’ve always been proud of what this team accomplished during my administration. But more than what we did, I’m proud of how they’re continuing to fight for an America that’s better. https://t.co/0cfDltjueP

Obama has been disciplined in following the tradition set by former presidents, to avoid bashing the occupant of the Oval Office even if his politics are starkly different. However, some political observers have expressed that the current administration should be an exception, yearning for Obama to speak up amid the dismantling of norms and disintegration of discourse.
