Amid the ongoing fallout over President Donald Trump’s Twitter attack on four minority congresswomen, House Republicans’ campaign arm on Tuesday seized the opportunity to somehow spin a news cycle about the President’s racist comments into one about Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) decorum.
In an email blast, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) targeted 29 Democrats, calling them “deranged” and charging that their “hatred of President Trump” had “reached a new pathetic level.”
Why? Because the Democrats had voted against striking from the congressional record comments from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) calling President Donald Trump’s racist attack against four Democratic congresswomen “racist.”
The NRCC sent a separate email with the same wording for each of the 29 Democrats the group chose to target.
Republicans made a fuss on Tuesday over that Pelosi’s comments calling Trump’s tweets “racist,” charging that she violated a House rule against using that word in reference to the President.
The Tuesday emails cited a reporter’s tweet saying as much, taking a controversy about the President and transforming it into an attack on Pelosi and her caucus.
The NRCC didn’t respond to TPM’s multiple requests for comment on Trump’s comments.
Notably, the NRCC did not send a critical email blast when the Democratic led House — with the support of four Republicans — passed a resolution condemning Trump’s comments.
