President Trump is holding a rally Thursday evening in New Hampshire. And he’s bringing along an old sidekick: Corey Lewandowski, his short-lived former campaign manager.
Lewandowski is reportedly mulling a Senate bid in New Hampshire, a move that Republicans in the state are already publicly against, and many worry Trump will use his campaign rally there to hype his former hype man. Prominent Republicans have expressed concerns about a Lewandowski bid, including Republican Gov. Chris Sununu, according to Politico.
Most Republicans are concerned with his controversial personal past, including the battery charges against him — which were later dropped — following his encounter with a Breitbart reporter. One well-respected Republican strategist in New Hampshire told Politico that the idea of a Lewandowski Senate bid was a complete “joke.”
“He adds nothing to the ticket and doesn’t help the president or the ticket in any way,” the New Hampshire GOP strategist, Dave Carney told Politico. “Corey is a political hack. Political hacks make bad candidates generally.”
But Trump’s campaign aides think Lewandowski will have a stimulant effect on Trump’s base of supporters in the state, according to Politico.
While Lewandowski has waffled on whether he intends to run, he’s tweeted out several articles speculating on his possible bid, including one that confirmed he’d be speaking at Trump’s rally tonight and another bashing the Democratic incumbent he’s reportedly considering challenging.
