House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) on Sunday said that “if proven,” the contents of special counsel Robert Mueller’s redacted final report are impeachable.
“Yeah I do,” think the contents of the report are impeachable, Nadler told “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd.
“If proven, some of this would be impeachable. Yes, obstruction of justice, if proven, would be impeachable.”
He added: “We’re going to see where the facts lead us.”
Nadler noted earlier in the interview that Mueller made no criminal determination on the question of whether the President obstructed justice in part because an existing Justice Department Office of Legal Counsel memo prevents the prosecution of a sitting president.
Mueller wrote that in light of that OLC memo, “Fairness concerns counseled against potentially reaching that judgment [on obstruction of justice] when no charges can be brought.”
On the question of impeachment proceedings specifically, Nadler said Sunday “we may get to that, we may not,” but that it was his responsibility to “go where the evidence leads us.”
