Long-time conspiracy theorist and recent Robert Mueller investigation participant Jerome Corsi said that he expects to be indicted this week by the special counsel, potentially “for some form or other of lying.”
“So now I’m gonna have to go to prison for the rest of my life because I dared to oppose the deep state,” Corsi said in a rambling Nov. 12 Youtube broadcast, adding: “I do ask for assistance with donations, the Paypal is set up right now.”
Corsi, an ally of Roger Stone, has been meeting with the Mueller team since August, saying that he had spent roughly 40 hours speaking with prosecutors.
“The entire negotiations and discussions have just blown up,” Corsi said, claiming he had been caught in a “perjury trap.”
“Two months, six sessions, probably 40 hours of grilling, [it] reminds me of the KGB or the Gestapo,” he opined. “I felt like a prisoner of war in the Korean War being interrogated by North Koreans.”
Corsi attorney David Gray declined to comment. Peter Carr, a spokesman for the Special Counsel’s Office, declined to comment.
Throughout the rambling 45-minute long broadcast, Corsi, who is known for fabricating and exaggerating, alternated between defiance and self-pity, contradicting himself along the way.
At times, the 72-year old conspiracy theorist went out of his way to detail his cooperation with the Mueller probe, saying that he handed over “two computers I used throughout the 2016 [Republican] convention” and “signed to the FBI permission to look at all my email accounts.”
He also claimed in the video that “my crime really was supporting Donald Trump,” while dipping into John Birch Society-esque rhetoric.
“My belief is that Donald Trump is not gonna let the Constitution be destroyed by a bunch of Marxists,” Corsi sputtered at one point.
Mueller’s team is reportedly interested in Corsi’s communications with GOP provocateur Roger Stone during the 2016 election regarding any advance knowledge of Wikileaks releasing emails stolen from the Clinton campaign, as well as any potential coordination of the release with the Russian government.
Corsi denied having a direct connection to Wikileaks.
“In the final analysis, I want everyone to know that, to the best of my recollection, I never met Julian Assange, to the best of my recollection I did not have anyone who connected me to Julian Assange,” Corsi said. “To the best of my recollection – what I knew in advance about what Julian Assange was going to do in terms of having the Podesta emails – I figured it out.”
Corsi also claimed that prosecutors had questioned him in detail about a trip Corsi took to Italy for his “25th wedding anniversary” two years ago.
The trip puts Corsi in company with George Papadopoulos, Michael Cohen, and Joseph Mifsud as people in the orbit of the Russia investigation who travelled to Italy during the 2016 presidential campaign.
Cohen travelled to Italy in July 2016, while Papadopoulos first met Mifsud in Italy in March 2016.
Corsi himself did not reply to a request for comment.
In a statement to TPM, Roger Stone conceded that the Mueller probe had access to communications between him and Corsi.
“It is possible to take individual communications out of context to create a false impression to a grand jury. Such a case would be weak and would fail,” Roger Stone told TPM in a statement. “Dr. Corsi strikes me as a man who has been squeezed hard but refuses to do anything but tell the truth which is why they may be indicting him.”
