The House Oversight Committee recently issued a request to President Trump’s accountant for 10 years of Trump’s personal financial information, a letter revealed on Wednesday.
Reps. Mark Meadows (R-NC) and Jim Jordan (R-OH) revealed the request to the firm Mazars USA LLP in a letter criticizing House Oversight Committee chair Elijah Cummings (D-MD).
“As we understand the focus of the Chairman’s request, he is seeking information and material about President Trump’s personal finances going back ten years in time — well before the President was a candidate for federal office,” reads the March 27 letter.
The two then cite a yet-to-be released March 20 letter addressed to the CEO of Mazars USA.
Cummings’s office released the letter to Mazars after the GOPers revealed it.
Cummings’ inquiry to Mazars emanated from testimony given by former Trump personal attorney Michael Cohen with regard to an ill-fated bid for the NFL’s Buffalo Bills. Cohen accused Trump of inflating his worth by $4 billion in his attempt to buy the team.
The request itself shows that Cummings is seeking financial statements and independent auditors’ reports on Trump himself, and his revocable trust, the Trump Org, the Trump Foundation, and other legal entities associated with the President.
Cummings also seeks communications between the president and Mazars, as well as his accountant there, Donald Bender.
Meadows and Jordan released the information in a statement accusing Cummings of “repeated partisan attacks on the President.”
Cummings declined to comment on the investigation to reporters on Wednesday but did add that “they complain about every single thing I do.”
“We’re just seeking the truth,” he said. “That’s all.”
The two Republicans also lamented Cummings’s request to former Fox News reporter Diana Falzone for information about the network allegedly killing a story she had about Trump’s affair with porn star Stormy Daniels, though that document request had been previously reported. Fox denies the allegation.
