A Fox News host hit out at National Rifle Association chief Wayne LaPierre in a Sunday segment, accusing him of being part of the D.C. swamp and of grifting the group’s gun-loving membership.
In the segment – titled “Swamp Watch” – the host introduces LaPierre as “a man who has been exploiting for his own personal enrichment one of the most deeply held beliefs of American patriots.”
The host in question is Steve Hilton, a conservative Brit who strays somewhat from the mainstream of Fox News.
Hilton delves into the accusations against the NRA boss, detailing instances in which LaPierre allegedly diverted funds from the non-profit for his own lavish uses.
Most recently, that’s included an abortive attempt to apparently use NRA cash to buy a $6 million Texas mansion for LaPierre and his wife in the wake of the Parkland massacre. The ever-vigilant LaPierre was reportedly afraid for his safety after the massacre, and demanded a luxurious safe space that would protect him from the masses.
The NRA denies the allegations.
For Hilton, this is an example of LaPierre being “an odious little grifter.” It’s still Fox News, and the segment suggests that LaPierre’s alleged grifting has damaged the movement to defend the Second Amendment.
“It’s time for him to go,” Hilton said.
