As part of his opening statement for his Wednesday hearing with the House Oversight Committee, Michael Cohen shared two checks he received from President Trump in 2017, which Cohen alleged were part of Trump’s reimbursement to Cohen for making a hush money payment to porn actress Stormy Daniels.
As court documents have revealed, Cohen made a $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels to keep her from going public with her claim that she had an affair with Trump. The President’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, also previously revealed that Trump reimbursed Cohen for the hush payment in several installments of $35,000.
One check, dated August 1, 2017, came from an account linked to “Donald J. Trump” at Capital One bank. In his testimony, Cohen said that this check was signed by Trump personally and came from his personal bank account
The second check, dated March 17, 2017, came from Trump’s “Revocable Trust Account” at Capital One bank. The check contains two signatures written in pen. Cohen testified on Wednesday that Donald Trump Jr. and Trump Organization Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg signed the March check, as well as all the other installments of the reimbursement.
