Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann really stepped in it Thursday, telling journalism students at Ole Miss that former Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS) is “deceased” — that’ll be news to Cochran who, as his former chief of staff put it, is “very much alive.”
According to Clarion Ledger report, a student asked how close he was to the longtime senator.
“He’s deceased, so I’m not real close,” Hosemann said.
Someone should let the recently retired Cochran know, who is 81 and still kicking.
“I just left Thad Cochran, and he’s very much alive,” Cochran former Chief of Staff Brad White told the Clarion Ledger. “We were talking about vacancies on the court — he was asking me specifically about the 5th Circuit — and other issues. He was sitting at a table eating an apple. I just left.”
Hosemann apologized.
