The board of canvassers in Michigan’s Wayne County, which includes Detroit, suddenly backtracked on Tuesday night and voted unanimously to certify the county’s election results after initially reaching a deadlock.
Earlier in the evening, the bipartisan board made up of two Republicans and two Democrats reached a stalemate on the vote when the Republicans voted against certification, thereby blocking the hundreds of thousands of votes that helped propel President-elect Joe Biden to victory.
The GOP canvassers backpedaled after coming under fire for invalidating the votes of Detroit, which is largely made up of Black Americans.
A furious President Donald Trump, who has launched a full-on war on swing state votes for Biden and had cheered the board’s initial vote on Tuesday night, claimed via Twitter on Wednesday that the Republicans had been “threatened, screamed at and viciously harassed, and were FORCED to change their vote.”
Trump campaign attorney Jenna Ellis also griped about the certification on Fox News, asserting that the board had been pressured by “mob rule.”
