House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) urged President Donald Trump not to take up his new attack on Obamacare — through the courts this time — though he was ultimately ignored, according to reports Wednesday in Axios and Washington Post.

McCarthy has reportedly hung the GOP’s 2018 loss in the House on their failed attempt to repeal Obamacare in Congress.

Some Republicans have been openly ambivalent about the President’s abrupt policy pivot, and others have been more candidly frustrated anonymously.

“It’s the dumbest thing I have ever heard,” a senior Republican aide told the Post. “It is the equivalent of punching yourself in the face repeatedly.”

A common theme in the complaints has been that Republicans failed to get rid of Obamacare even when they had both houses of Congress, and that pivoting to health care gives Democrats an issue they like and a way out of talking about the seemingly positive Mueller news for Trump.
