Talk about awkward timing.

Within an hour of President Donald Trump declaring on the White House lawn Thursday that the Chinese and Ukrainian governments should investigate both Joe and Hunter Biden, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy urged Speaker Nancy Pelosi to suspend the Democrats’ impeachment inquiry in a letter Thursday.

Citing the need for “transparent and equitable rules and procedures” to be established, McCarthy went after Pelosi for giving “no clear indication as to how your impeachment inquiry will proceed — including whether key historical precedents or basic standards of due process will be observed.”

McCarthy’s laughable letter included what amounted to a questionnaire, asking Pelosi to answer several questions before the House moves forward with its impeachment inquiry, such as whether she intends to hold a full House authorization vote and to provide the President’s counsel the right to cross-examine witnesses.

At the end of his pointed questionnaire, McCarthy writes that by answering “no” to any of the above questions means that Pelosi “would be acting in direct contradiction to all modern impeachment inquiries of a sitting president.”

Pelosi responded to McCarthy’s letter Thursday afternoon by noting that she received it “this morning shortly after the world witnessed President Trump on national television asking yet another foreign power to interfere in the upcoming 2020 elections.”
