Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) installed an anti-transgender sign outside her office on Wednesday after Rep. Marie Newman (D-IL) put a trans pride flag outside her office that sits across from the GOP freshman’s door.
Newman, whose daughter is transgender, installed the multi-colored flag after the GOP lawmaker called an LGBTQ rights bill “an attack on God’s creation.”
Greene had delivered the discriminatory remarks on the House floor earlier this week as she took aim at the Equality Act — a bill that would extend civil rights protections to the LGBTQ community.
The Georgia lawmaker offered a flimsy argument for her discriminatory challenge to advocacy for transpeople by suggesting the Equality Act would allow “men who dress and think they are women” to have rights over “real girls and women.” Greene has co-sponsored legislation that would prohibit trans women and girls from women and girls’ athletic divisions.
In a video posted to Twitter, Greene, who was stripped of her House committee assignments earlier this month over her endorsement of violent rhetoric and conspiracy theories, can be seen putting up the anti-transgender sign before smiling and dusting off her hands. “There are TWO genders: Male & Female. Trust The Science!” Greene’s sign reads.
Our neighbor, @RepMarieNewman, wants to pass the so-called "Equality" Act to destroy women’s rights and religious freedoms.
Thought we’d put up ours so she can look at it every time she opens her door ??? https://t.co/7joKpTh6Dc pic.twitter.com/aBGRSiIF6X

Greene posted the video in response to a clip that was shared by Newman earlier on Wednesday. In that video, Newman was shown planting the the trans flag which now waves outside of her office.
“Thought we’d put up our Transgender flag so she can look at it every time she opens her door,” Newman wrote.
Greene on Wednesday mocked the Democratic congresswoman’s transgender daughter as her “biological son,” retweeting a video in which Newman dedicated her vote to passing the Equality Act for her transgender daughter who she calls “the strongest, bravest person I know.”
“As mothers, we all love and support our children. But your biological son does NOT belong in my daughters’ bathrooms, locker rooms, and sports teams,” Greene wrote.
