Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) on Tuesday was suddenly “happy” to tout that community health centers in his district will receive grants from the Department of Health and Human Services — which were made possible through the passage of the COVID-19 relief package that he voted against earlier this month.
-Bakersville Community Medical Clinic Inc. was given $1,771,125
-Blue Ridge Community Health Services Inc. was given $10,473,250
Proud to see tax-payer dollars returned to NC-11.

Cawthorn — who is the youngest member of Congress and has been accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women — appeared to take a cue from some Republicans, like Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS), who touted the passage of the COVID-19 relief plan in Congress not long after he voted against it. Wicker tweeted that independent restaurant operators that have struggled amid the pandemic have “won” $28.6 billion worth of targeted relief.

This funding will ensure small businesses can survive the pandemic by helping to adapt their operations and keep their employees on the payroll.https://t.co/Ob4pRb9Xh4

Twitter users swiftly called out Cawthorn’s hypocritical praise for the COVID-19 relief plan that he voted against:
Dear @RepCawthorn: Pleased to see you support government spending in NC-11.
Also, did you vote for the #AmericanRescuePlan? https://t.co/f5ZR9sv6bg

Happy to announce that you voted against all these too?

These funds come from the American Rescue Plan, which this Republican voted against.

You literally voted against these grants. You are making a list of the ways in which Biden and the Democrats are helping YOUR constituents against YOUR stolid opposition. Have you no shame? https://t.co/HrdnKKv99e
