President Donald Trump took his attacks against Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to a new level on Tuesday.
Harkening back to his “lock her up!” days, Trump retweeted a post by Lin Wood, one of the lawyers who helped lead several fruitless lawsuits seeking to overturn the election and is prone to spreading conspiracy theories, calling for the two Georgia officials to be jailed.
“President Trump @realDonaldTrump is a genuinely good man. He does not really like to fire people. I bet he dislikes putting people in jail, especially ‘Republicans,'” Wood tweeted. “He gave @BrianKempGA & @GaSecofState every chance to get it right. They refused. They will soon be going to jail.”
The tweet included an edited image of Kemp and Raffensperger wearing masks bearing the Chinese flag.
Trump retweeted the post without comment.
Kemp and Raffensperger’s offices did not immediately respond to request for comment, nor did the White House.
Trump has been relentlessly dragging the two men, who are both Republicans, through the mud as he furiously works to somehow undo President-elect Joe Biden’s win in the Peach State. He has called Kemp a “terrible” governor who’s “worse than a Democrat” and referred to Raffensperger as a “RINO (Republican In Name Only).”
The President’s attacks have sparked threats against the officials, which he has refused to condemn.
